Year 10 History Residential Trip to Ypres – September 2025

In September 2025, Year 10 History students participated in a residential trip to the World War I battlefield sites in and around Ypres, Belgium. The visit supported their studies of Medicine in Britain (1250–present), providing a powerful opportunity to explore how injuries were treated during the First World War within the context of the battlefield.

Over the two-day trip, students visited key historical sites across the Ypres Salient, an area central to some of the most significant fighting of the war. Based in the historic city of Ypres, students were able to gain a deeper understanding of the conditions faced by soldiers, as well as the challenges encountered by medical staff on the front line.

The programme was enriched by expert guidance from Anglia Tours, with knowledgeable guides accompanying students throughout excursions to enhance their understanding and provide local context. Travel between sites was by coach, allowing students to experience a wide range of locations with minimal walking required.

This visit provided an invaluable extension to classroom learning, helping students to connect historical knowledge with real-world environments. It was a memorable and impactful experience, greatly enhancing students’ understanding of the realities of the First World War.
