Global School Award

King Edward VI CEVC School in Bury St. Edmunds has been recognised by the Global School Alliance for its outstanding commitment to providing students with a global perspective and has been awarded the prestigious Bronze and Silver Level Global School Award.

The Global School Awards are a supportive and motivational framework that guides and supports schools through their international work. With three certified levels of recognition, the Awards programme takes schools from introducing international work to the curriculum, to embedding it within the school’s culture and wider ethos.

Supporting and celebrating the global dimensions of teaching and learning have always been at the heart of the work of the Global School Alliance so that all students can gain the skills, knowledge and experiences required for living and working in todays globalised and interdependent world.

A key strength highlighted in the school’s application is its long-standing partnership with Shanghai Yangjing Juyuan Experimental School in China, now spanning more than 17 years. Students from both schools regularly take part in joint study visits to London, exploring key landmarks and deepening their understanding of each other’s history, geography, and culture. Each exchange concludes with a vibrant Farewell Party, where students showcase performances that reflect their cultural heritage and celebrate their growing international friendships.

On hearing the news that King Edward VI CEVC School had achieved Silver Level of the Global School Award, Deri O’Regan Headteacher said: “We are delighted to receive the Silver Global School Award. This achievement reflects our dedication to providing students with rich international experiences that broaden their horizons and deepen their understanding of the world. Our global partnerships greatly enrich our curriculum and help our students become confident, compassionate global citizens.”

Julie Sutcliffe, Education Development Lead, said: “We are proud to work with King Edward VI CEVC School and delighted to recognise their outstanding commitment to global learning. By embedding international perspectives across the curriculum and building meaningful partnerships, King Edward VI CEVC School is bringing the world into classrooms, driving school improvement, and developing globally aware and empowered learners.”

FURTHER INFORMATION ABOUT THE GLOBAL SCHOOL AWARDS

Schools are supported to following an accessible methodology to encourage the development of links with partner schools around the world, enhance the curriculum and prepare students for life as global citizens.

Schools working on the programme produce an action plan for integrating international activities into the classroom, and then produce evidence to show that they have carried out these activities. The school is guided and advised throughout the process and schools are awarded the Global School Award if they meet the standard
